Private Health Insurance

As of July 1, 2025, in Australia, Naturopathy is eligible for private health insurance cover, following a 2024 review. While the government has reinstated eligibility, individual insurers decide whether to include Naturopathy in their Extras policies and determine benefit levels. Coverage was previously removed in April 2019.
Now is a good time to check and see if your insurer is supporting your right to choose Traditional Heath Practices rather than just the current model. While these therapies are now eligible for PHI rebates, it remains up to each private health insurer to determine.
1. Whether they will offer cover
2. When that coverage will start
3. What level of benefits will apply.
There would appear to be very little rush at this point by private health insurance companies to allow people to start claiming. This can be an important consideration when choosing which private health insurance company you choose. Are they supporting preventative health strategies? Do they support choice? If we vote with our hard earned dollars, then they will come on board.
These upcoming changes to PHI should be available in the next few months. Fingers crossed. Some of the health insurance providers are starting to send out info on their rebates now, so keep an eye out...I will update you once I know more
